So I have been networking on Twitter and Facebook for the past 5 months or so now, and I have to tell you, It has been amazing! I have met some of the greatest people/clients/partners along the way and I cannot wait to keep the good times rolling. Just to give you an example of how awesome the people are on Twitter I am going to tell you a story that happened to me in the past week.
The other day while I was on twitter shouting out to my friends and tweeting links as usual, I hear a lot of talk about a cake, that was so amazing, and so delicious that it tasted like ‘Heaven’. This cake was called a ‘King Cake’ I had never heard of this cake before. The people talking about the cake were in disbelief that I had never had such a wonderful delicacy that they said ‘We will mail you one’. *Note I do not remember exact words exchanged so don’t quote me :)* I laugh it off at first as a joke, but then they actually offer to MAIL me a CAKE! In the freaking mail! How cool is that? What kind and selfless people could possibly take the time out of their day, to mail someone across the country, their favorite holiday desert? I was amazed! Those amazing people actually work for a pretty awesome web development company called Gatorworks and you can follow them on twitter! They are great people!
I have learned a lot about Louisiana and the history behind the ‘King Cake’ during this process as well! It is a ritual to eat the king cake during the Mardi Gras season as a celebratory delicacy! I also learned that there is a tiny plastic baby figure inside the cake, and whoever gets the piece with the baby in it, has to buy the next ‘king cake’! Woah! Talk about a fun AND Delicious cake! I was amazed a few short days later when the King cake arrived at my doorstep! I was very excited to share it with my wife and kids in the spirit of my wonderful friends from gatorworks and Mardi Gras! Below you can follow the excitement of my experience that day!
So the morale of the story today is that Social Media and Networking is a GREAT Thing! Always be open and interact with your friends/business partners/clients in places like Twitter. Give with both hands, and be the nicest you can be! There are some amazing people out there on Twitter, just like these guys that sent me the cake! So always be on your A-game and just be YOU! Because you never know who will help you when you are in need, or who will send you a tasty treat in the mail :).
Have a great #followfriday Everyone!
