The world would be a much worse place to live in without people who have developed expertise in solving problems. Whether those problems be medical, mechanical, or educational the problem solvers of the world deserve our thanks.
This is not to say that every business or professional is created equally. I’m sure all of us have had the experience of being ripped-off, or at least not receiving the most bang for our buck. So we pick favorites with the professionals we go to, and there is nothing wrong with that.
This list is far from all-inclusive, but here are just a handful of professionals that when you find one you can trust, makes life so much better.
Doctor
How to Find the Right Doctor for You
I’ve joked before that being a doctor must be great. All you have to do is listen to what the patient says and then say what you think the problem is and then hope you are right, and then get paid more money for a follow-up visit if you were wrong.
Of course, doctors have a very difficult career. The schooling to get there alone is enough to dissuade many people from even trying. Doctors see and deal with a lot of heavy, terrible things. We can all appreciate their work.
That being said, I remember going to a specialist when my wife was having a back problem, and he was the most unprofessional and indifferent medical professional I have ever met.
The difference in what I described and a warm, caring doctor who will listen and care about you is night and day. It makes a huge difference, especially when you are going through something difficult.
Hair Stylist/Barber
According to the great Ron Swanson, “The three most important people in a man’s life are his barber, his butcher, and his lover.” A barber, or anyone who takes care of your hair, is very important. A nice, fresh haircut will fill you with confidence and swagger. A poor haircut will make you hide in your house as you try to grow your hair back through willpower and shame.
These people hold an incredible amount of power in your life. Finding a good stylist or barber can be challenging, but once you find someone you like, your life, and hair, will never be the same. In a good way of course.
Mechanic
This is a huuuuuge one. We all need transportation, and many of us could not go about our daily lives without a vehicle. Then, disaster strikes and you have to take your lovingly cared for and aptly name car into a shop to be repaired.
Most of you have probably been on the receiving end of a mechanics bill that blew us away, and not in a good way. It is important to realize that you need to pay for experience and expertise. That is why it is so important to have a mechanic that you trust. If you know that they will be honest with you, then you know whatever they have you pay is fair and necessary.
Vet
Picking The Right Vet: A Cheat Sheet
Why did this make this list while many other professionals did not? In today’s world, many people treat pets with as much, if not more, interest and love than they do their fellow humans.
It is important to have a trusted veterinarian that you know will take good care of your pet. Man’s best friend does deserve quality service. It is hard to watch a pet require surgery or other medical treatment, but knowing that your vet will treat your animal with love and professionalism can help ease those worries. After all, pets are part of the family.
Conclusion
There are so many industries and services in today’s world. They are all offering solutions to problems or inconveniences. They key is to know who, out of all the professionals out there, will treat you with the respect and integrity you deserve. So yes, in this case, it is okay to play favorites.
