50+ Geeky, Nostalgic & Inspirational Vintage Video Game Print Ad Designs From The 80s & 90s

So there is no secret, I used to love video games growing up (as I am sure most of you did as well). So I stumbled upon some awesome vintage video game ads recently and I wanted to share them with you guys! Sadly, I remember almost ALL of these ads from when I used to obsessively collect and read every issue of EGM (electronic gaming monthly), gamefan, gamepro, nintendo power and all the other video game magazines from that time period. So when I saw these I was overcome with much Nostalgia and great geeky memories from my childhood. Those were the days! I hope I can inspire you with these AMAZING print ads on your next web or Poster Printing project, or just take you down memory lane for a while and get all warm and fuzzy – either way.

Enjoy!

(I reallyyyy wanted one of these when I was a kid, but never actually got it)

(Fun game, fond memories playing this at my grandma’s house when I was little)

(Nerdy Confession: I had a ridiculous obsession with Sonic when I was little, now my 4 year old has a similar obsession with him and Mario)

(One of the best fighting games of all time IMO)

(When I was a kid I thought this technology was simply amazing. Magic even!)

(loved my n64)

(trololol)

(lol these things died out before I had a chance to even want one)

(These were amazing, but I never wanted one because I wanted to play the actual game as intended lol)

(these were badass.)

(lol the mountie? hahahaha)

(LOL AAHHNNOOLLDDDD)

(this ad actually made me go out and get that thing, but I quickly returned it due to suckage)

Holy snaps, you were not kidding, #Epic #Geek! The ninetees kick ass. I was just looking the other day for a sega genesis to buy online. I also need to get a super nintendo. At one time I probably had more than one of each in my house. I miss them! The nineties were a kick ass time to be in. Great post! Please continue with the nostalgia sweetness from our newly minted vintage era 😀

lolol yeah Lauren I would love to go back to the 90’s any day lol. I had an NES, Genesis, Super Nintendo, N64 – wish I still had them 🙁 🙁 🙁 but at least you can still play a lot of the games online now haha (or via Wii). But yeah, good times good times 🙂 Thanks for the comment! Yes Geeky Epic Nostalgia’ness will continue

They were all rad! Well, 64 I ever got into really.

Whilst chaperoning my little one on an online game site as she played doll dress up games, I saw was like, “They’ve got all the old mario games here too!? My turn now!” XD

I thought for sure the old Nintendo systems would be harder to find and pricey by now, so I haven’t worked up the nerve to even look into finding them, but I was stoked to find the going rate for a refurbished Genesis setup goes for around $40 bucks and under, and is in no short supply. — The same price as it was to get a brand new one way back when!

yeah I am kind of surprised that the old system and game prices haven’t skyrocketed – one day I assume they will be worth something to die hard fans but they are kind of a novelty now I guess but I still love the real things! lol

Wow! Cool to see the retro design. My favorite games were DigDug, & Pole Position for Atari, and X-Men & Tekken in the Arcades. I know I’m dating myself!

LOL yeah Tekken was my favorite in the arcades – after Mortal Kombat left them – I was addicted to Mortal Kombat in the Arcade for quite some time lol

Yep, I always got the “Sonya Blade” shoutouts in school. Ha! So the one that stands out the most to me in this group is the “Alien” ad just because of the simple concept, although it totally drives the point home. Something similar to this could totally stand in todays adworld. I also like some of the illustrations and layouts of the others. Which ones do you like and think that you can borrow from for work on something current?
