This is good info, if an auto update fails, and you fix it by 1) deleting the 'upgrade' folder on the server inside wp-content/ 2) install wordpress freshly via ftp (overwriting wp-admin, wp-includes, and the files, with all the files from a freshly downloaded wordpress install) 3) then you need to delete the .maintenance file in the root of the site on the server. then that annoying "An automated WordPress update has failed to complete" message will go away if it is still there after you already did everything and the new wordpress version is working properly

this helped me out with the new wordpress, and trying to deal with its is_page_template function and how it doesn't work properly for page.php – the default template
